Women education is paramount to develop the society and keeping this in mind, Major Baman
Das Basu a Philanthropist doctor and highly renowned scholars,
founded Jagat Taran School, one of the earliest girls school of Prayagraj, named
after his sister and brother-in-law Jagat Mohini and Taran Chandra Das in the year 1919.
He was ably assisted in this noble mission by some of the most distinguished luminaries of Prayagraj who
shared their vision for educating the girls of poor and middle class families. Sir

coveted position of the best girl’s institution of the city under the High School and Intermediate Board
of U.P.
To commemorate this important milestone the Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School, a
co-educational English Medium school was founded in the early seventies.
Under the dynamic stewardship of Ms. Surabhi Sinha (founder Prinicipal) who
retired after a glorious innings as Principal of Jagat Taran Inter College (initially up to class VIII),
the school got affiliation from the CBSE to start class X and thereafter to
start class XII in the mid-nineties, in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
Not content with school education only, the Jagat Taran Education Society Management now expanded its
wings and established a degree college now- the Jagat Taran Girls’ Degree
College affiliated to the University of Prayagraj. Mean while a
separate nursery school had also taken shape.
The Purva Madhyamik or Junior High School wing of the parent institution was
relocated to the same premises and the Education society now caters to the entire gamut of educational
needs of the citizens- from the nursery to the degree level – a light house of education,
standing tall and proud.
