The Indian culture is rich in heritage and tradition. It has a lifelong history of great men who were born, had walked, and breathed their last breath in this country. Sri Aurobindo Ghosh is one of them. Sri Aurobindo Ghosh, who later came to be known as Sri Aurobindo Maharishi, was a great revolutionary, patriot, philosopher, mystic, poet, yogi and humanist.
Sri Aurobindo was one of the most eminent and learned gurus of his times; he was a spiritualist. He is one of India’s most respected and renowned jewels.
A Documentary film *’Vande Matram’* based on Sri Aurobindo Ghosh
which portrayed the rising revolutionary fervour against British rule in early 20th century and focused on the period of internment of Sri Aurobindo during the days of the freedom struggle, received its screening in the Rabindralaya Auditorium of Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School in an event hosted by one of the leading Hindi newspapers Amar Ujala on 06th February , 2024. The screening was attended by the students of classes 9 and 11.
Born on August 15, 1872, Sri Aurobindo Ghosh was one of the first few leaders to float the idea of complete independence from the British Raj. He proposed the concept of ‘Purna Swaraj’, 20 years before the Indian National Congress.
He advocated use of Swadeshi products, non-cooperation and passive resistance to achieve the goal. After being a part of the Independence movement between 1902 to 1910, he fled to the French colony of Puducherry to escape the British regime.
Sri Aurobindo set up an ashram in Puducherry and worked for the development of ‘internal Yoga.’ He authored several works including The Life Divine, Essays on the Gita, Collected Poems and Plays, The Synthesis of Yoga.
The students watched this documentary film with rapt attention and felt highly motivated. The school Principal Mrs. Sushmita Kanungo, the Senior Secondary Co-ordinator Ms. Rati Asthana , Secondary Section Co-ordinator Mrs. Shubhra Ghosh , Primary Co-ordinator Mrs. Smita Samaddar and several teachers were present in the auditorium.
